Memorial service for the EOKA struggle anniversary held in Nicosia

On Sunday, a memorial service took place at the Imprisoned Graves in Nicosia to mark the anniversary of the 1955-1959 EOKA struggle against British colonial rule. Deputy Minister of Culture Vasiliki Kassianidou represented President Nikos Christodoulides, delivering a commemorative speech and laying wreaths at the graves. The site contains the remains of 13 fighters, including nine who were executed by hanging, three who died in battle, and one who died in a military hospital. During the event, organized by the Association of Political Prisoners, Kassianidou highlighted the historical significance of the struggle. She also referenced a recent meeting between the President and the UN Secretary-General, noting the government's intention to intensify efforts to resolve the ongoing Cyprus issue. The minister emphasized the values of sacrifice and freedom associated with the 1955-1959 movement. No further political announcements regarding negotiations were detailed during the ceremony.
