Iranian intelligence chief Majid Khademi killed in Tehran
On April 6, 2026, Iranian state media confirmed the death of Majid Khademi, the head of the intelligence organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Khademi had assumed his position in June 2025 following the death of his predecessor, Mohammad Kazemi, in a previous Israeli strike. While the Israeli military claimed responsibility for the operation in Tehran, Iranian sources attributed the strike to a joint American-Israeli bombing. Israeli media reports also suggested that Yazdan Mir, also known as Sardar Bagheri and head of the covert Quds Force Unit 840, was killed in the same series of strikes. While Israel asserts this unit is responsible for external kidnapping and assassination operations, Tehran has not confirmed the death of Yazdan Mir. This event is perceived as part of an ongoing Israeli effort to dismantle Iran's intelligence, counter-intelligence, and command infrastructure. Tensions remain high as the strike marks a significant escalation in the targeting of high-ranking Iranian officials.
