Iranian intelligence chief Majid Khademi killed in airstrike

Majid Khademi, the head of the intelligence organization for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was killed during an overnight airstrike in Tehran on April 6, 2026. The IRGC officially confirmed his death, attributing it to a joint US-Israeli operation. Israeli military sources stated that the strike also killed Yazdan Mir, also known as Sardar Bagheri, who commanded the secretive Unit 840 of the Quds Force. While Iranian media confirmed Khademi's death, the status of Yazdan Mir remained unconfirmed by Tehran at the time of reporting. Khademi had assumed his leadership role in June 2025 following the death of his predecessor, Mohammad Kazemi, during a 12-day conflict. The strikes occurred amidst ongoing tensions following threats made by Donald Trump regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Reports indicate that at least 25 people were killed in the wave of attacks. The IRGC has issued a formal threat of retaliation against those responsible for the strike.
