Labor Ministry discusses social insurance reform and gender pay equality directives

On Monday, Minister of Labor Marinos Mousiouttas announced that the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Finance are currently discussing the investment policy of the Social Insurance Fund and the repayment of state debt to the fund. These discussions took place following a session of the Labor Advisory Body. During this session, participants examined the implementation of the European Directive 2023/970, which mandates equal pay for men and women performing equal or equivalent work. The government is committed to incorporating this directive into national law by the deadline of June 7, 2026. The Ministry plans to finalize the bill within the coming weeks for submission to the Council of Ministers and subsequently to the Parliament. Additionally, the advisory body reviewed a draft bill concerning the establishment and revision of administrative fines. Minister Mousiouttas noted that legislative progress might be affected by the upcoming parliamentary elections and the suspension of parliamentary proceedings.
