Cyprus dam levels reach 33.9 percent following recent inflows
As of early April, water levels in Cyprus dams have reached 33.9 percent capacity, holding 98.7 million cubic meters of water. According to Marios Chatzikostis, Chief Technical Engineer at the Water Development Department, this represents an improvement over the 24.1 percent recorded at the same time last year. Recent rainfall over a three-day period added 3.75 million cubic meters to the reservoirs. Since October 1, the total inflow has reached approximately 81 million cubic meters. While March experienced historically high inflows, officials emphasized that these levels are not sufficient to guarantee long-term water security. Authorities continue to urge careful water usage, noting that drought remains a frequent and worsening threat. Specific infrastructure, such as the Kouris dam, saw significant inflows of 0.866 million cubic meters over the last three days, while others like the Kalavasos dam showed varying storage levels compared to the previous year.
