New cases of foot-and-mouth disease reported in Dromolaxia and Meneou
On April 6, 2026, the Veterinary Services of Cyprus announced the detection of two additional cases of foot-and-mouth disease at livestock units located in the areas of Dromolaxia and Meneou. According to Senior Veterinary Officer Sotiria Georgiadou, the affected sites are two small facilities holding a combined total of 25 sheep and goats. These new infections were identified within the previously established infected zone and were categorized by authorities as an expected development in the ongoing outbreak. Veterinary officials confirmed that comprehensive sampling investigations have now been completed across almost all of Cyprus. The process of vaccinating livestock is currently underway as a containment measure. While local news sources specify the location of the two new units, other reports have summarized the event as an increasing trend in the number of infected farms in the Meneou area.
