Zero VAT rate implemented for fresh meat and fish
The government has implemented a zero VAT rate on fresh, chilled, and frozen meat and fish effective immediately. This measure is part of a series of decisions aimed at mitigating the impact of the energy crisis. The zero-rate policy applies to beef, pork, sheep, goat, poultry, rabbit, and hare, including slaughterhouse by-products. It also covers fresh, chilled, or frozen fish, as well as cuttlefish, squid, and octopus. This fiscal policy will remain in effect until September 30. Processed products remain excluded from the zero-rate measure. A reduced VAT rate of 5 percent continues to apply to meat and fish preparations, such as marinated meats, smoked products, sausages, meatballs, and chicken nuggets. Canned and breaded fish products also fall under the 5 percent reduced rate category.
