Vegan activists protest against lamb slaughter for Easter in Athens
On April 5, members of the Nemesis Federation held a protest in Syntagma Square, Athens, to oppose the traditional slaughter of lambs and kids for Easter. Activists displayed placards with slogans such as "Slaughter is not love" and argued for the recognition of animals as individual beings. The federation stated the action was a protest against the normalization of violence and the celebration of holidays through the death of animals. Participants highlighted that lambs and kids aged 4-5 weeks are slaughtered in large numbers for the holiday. Federation member Anna stated that over two million young animals are killed annually due to this custom. The protest aimed to shift social perceptions regarding animal rights and the connection between tradition and animal suffering. The group described their presence as a silent outcry against the mass sacrifice of animals.
