Paolo Maldini considered for Italian Football Federation presidency
Gabriele Gravina has resigned as president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) following the Italian national team's failure to qualify for the World Cup for the third consecutive time. The pressure for his departure intensified after Italy's defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the playoff penalty shootout, with various government ministers and members of parliament publicly calling for his resignation. Gravina had held the position since 2018. Reports from Gazzetta dello Sport indicate that former AC Milan defender and executive Paolo Maldini is the leading candidate to succeed him. Maldini, 57, reportedly holds the support of Italian Minister of Sport Andrea Abodi for this role. Maldini previously served as technical director and development director for AC Milan between 2019 and 2023.
