Conservation work begins on churches in northern Cyprus

Maintenance works have commenced at the Church of Saint George in Mezere, Karavas, as announced by Sotos Ktoris, co-chairman of the bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage. Under the same contract, restoration will also be conducted at the Church of Saint Irene. These projects are funded by the local community and the European Union, with technical guidance provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Additionally, maintenance continues at the Church of Panagia Faneromeni in Gastria, Karpasia. Recently, rescue operations were completed at the Church of Panagia Melissas on the northern slope of the Pentadaktylos range. Ktoris stated that the efforts, involving Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot professionals, successfully prevented the loss of the monument.
