President Christodoulides evaluates three years of governance
President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides published an article in the newspaper 'Phileleftheros' on April 5, 2026, marking the completion of three years of his administration. In his assessment, he detailed five core priorities: foreign policy with a clear Western and European orientation, economic resilience, state modernization, transparency and anti-corruption measures, and improving citizens' daily lives through health, education, housing, and social welfare policies. The President emphasized that the government is operating within a stable ideological framework to address the insecurities caused by a volatile international environment. He noted that the government has reached a mature phase in fulfilling its electoral promises. Furthermore, he highlighted that the government aims to avoid populism and experiments, focusing instead on measurable and achievable goals. Christodoulides also pointed to the country's upgraded role as a pillar of stability, particularly through the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. He concluded that his administration has established a foundation for a modern state through bold reforms.
