Fatal balcony collapse in Corinth

On Saturday, April 4, a balcony collapsed in the Kalamia area of Corinth on Pegasou Street, killing a woman and injuring her child. The victim, who was visiting from Germany with her family for the Easter holidays, was struck by falling concrete and building materials. At the time of the incident, workers were reportedly demolishing old plaster on the building. Witnesses state that a small-scale permit had been issued for the work, but no safety measures or warning signs were present to protect pedestrians. While the workers involved in the demolition reportedly fled the scene before police arrived, the project's supervising engineer turned himself in on Sunday, April 5. Authorities also arrested the contractor, but both the engineer and the contractor were subsequently released pending further forensic investigation. Police are currently searching for the property owner and the construction workers who were present at the scene.
