Cypriot high school students detained in Thessaloniki over counterfeit banknotes
During a school trip to Thessaloniki, Greece, a group of first-year high school students from Nicosia, Cyprus, were found to be using counterfeit banknotes. Reports indicate the students purchased counterfeit 50-euro bills online for a total cost of 100 euros, with an estimated face value of 10,000 euros. The students allegedly spent these notes in local shops, and some were also accused of theft from kiosks. Following investigations by the Greek police, the students involved underwent legal procedures and are currently restricted to their hotel under the supervision of their teachers. The Consulate of the Republic of Cyprus in Thessaloniki is monitoring the situation and has notified the students' families. The involved students are expected to return to Cyprus shortly, where they will provide testimony to local authorities regarding the origin of the counterfeit money.
