Police intensify patrols to curb Easter-related youth delinquency

Cypriot authorities have intensified patrols across all districts ahead of Easter to prevent illegal bonfires and the use of firecrackers. In Limassol, police and local authorities have removed significant quantities of fuel materials, requiring 34 truckloads to date. Police Assistant Commissioner Lefteris Kyriakou confirmed that 15 youths have been arrested in Limassol for public nuisance and fire-related offenses. Additionally, legal files have been opened against the parents of two minors under 16 for lack of supervision. In separate operations on Wednesday, two 19-year-olds were arrested in Larnaca after police found them with firecrackers and a knife. A 16-year-old was also arrested in Limassol for insulting officers and attempting to flee during a churchyard inspection. The Fire Service has been called to extinguish multiple unauthorized fires near churches across Nicosia, Limassol, and Larnaca. Authorities have appointed liaison officers to coordinate immediate responses to incidents until the night of the Resurrection.
