Cypriot police conduct Easter security operations to curb illegal bonfires

Ahead of the Easter holidays, Cypriot police have intensified patrols and inspections across all districts to prevent the use of firecrackers, unauthorised bonfires known as lampratzia, and juvenile delinquency. During operations conducted throughout the day and overnight, authorities seized quantities of wood collected for bonfires in Nicosia and Limassol. In the Limassol district, officers discovered and seized three Molotov cocktails near a church for further forensic examination. Police also responded to several incidents of open-air fires, often requiring assistance from the Fire Service to extinguish the flames. While patrols were carried out in Famagusta, Larnaca, Paphos, and the Morphou area, no serious incidents were reported in those regions. The Ministry of Justice and Public Order has established a coordinated plan involving local authorities, police, and the fire service to ensure public safety. Officials have urged the public to act responsibly and cooperate with security personnel throughout the holiday period.
