Lawyer assaulted at Limassol Assize Court following sentencing

A lawyer representing the Republic of Cyprus was assaulted by a convicted individual inside the Limassol Assize Court. The incident occurred immediately after the court announced the sentencing decision. Nicos Tornaritis, the Parliamentary Representative of the Democratic Rally and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, issued a formal condemnation of the event. He described the assault as a direct attack against the justice system and state institutions. Tornaritis called for immediate state intervention to ensure the safety of judicial officials. He emphasized the necessity of a zero-tolerance policy toward violence within courtrooms. The Supreme Court has also released a statement labeling the assault as unacceptable. Authorities are currently reviewing the incident to determine further actions to protect the legal process and maintain courtroom security.
