Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Culture presents 2025 activity report

On Friday at the Press and Information Office in Nicosia, Deputy Minister of Culture Vasiliki Kassianidou presented the 2025 activity report. Key projects include the establishment of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art at a State Fair pavilion and ongoing progress on the new Cyprus Archaeological Museum. The Department of Antiquities declared 24 new ancient monuments, restored 53 first-tier monuments, and subsidized 42 projects for second-tier sites. Regarding the new Archaeological Museum, a tender for over 70 multimedia digital applications was awarded in October 2025. Future plans involve restructuring the ministry in 2026 into four pillars: Antiquities, Contemporary Culture, Handicrafts, and the State Archive. While officials highlighted strategic growth and the Youth Culture Card, journalists noted persistent issues including administrative delays, understaffing, and systemic gaps. Preparation for the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026 remains a central priority.
