Larnaca District Court fines companies for workplace safety violations
The Larnaca District Court has imposed a total fine of 12,000 euros on two legal entities following a prosecution initiated by the Department of Labour Inspection. The legal action stemmed from workplace safety violations that resulted in an injury and placed other employees at risk. Specifically, the company KISA METAL WORK LTD was fined 5,500 euros for failing to provide adequate scaffolding during the assembly and disassembly of a metal canopy on a fourth-floor stairwell roof. The safety deficiencies included a lack of proper working platforms, insufficient guardrails, and failure to meet required heights of at least 1.10 meters. These omissions led to a worker falling approximately 4 meters and sustaining injuries. Additionally, the court found that the company failed to implement necessary preventive measures as outlined in its written risk assessment. The Department of Labour Inspection emphasized that these breaches created hazardous conditions for all personnel present at the site.
