Mircea Lucescu hospitalized following a heart attack
Eighty-year-old football coach Mircea Lucescu suffered an acute myocardial infarction on Friday morning while already hospitalized. He had been receiving treatment for a previous cardiac issue since last week, following a fainting spell on Sunday. The hospital staff intervened immediately, and his condition is currently reported as stable, though he remains in the intensive care unit. According to Romanian media, resuscitation efforts were required three times, and he is scheduled for a coronary angiography. Earlier this week, medical staff had implanted a defibrillator to stabilize his pulse. The Romanian Football Federation announced on Thursday that Lucescu will step down from his position as head coach of the national team, with his final match being against Turkey. He has a history of cardiac issues, having undergone emergency surgery for a heart attack in 2009 while in Donetsk.
