Cyprus industrial sector performance in January 2026
According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, the industrial turnover index reached 136.1 units in January 2026, reflecting a 4.1 per cent annual increase compared to January 2025. The manufacturing sector, the primary contributor to industrial activity, saw its index rise by 3.3 per cent to 133.7 units. Electricity supply recorded significant growth of 9 per cent, while water supply and materials recovery grew by 6.2 per cent. Conversely, mining and quarrying experienced a 10.1 per cent decline. Specific sub-sectors within manufacturing showed strong growth, including basic metals and fabricated metal products (+34.4 per cent), machinery and equipment (+31.1 per cent), and wood products (+29.9 per cent). While the primary report highlights a 4.1 per cent turnover increase, separate data concerning industrial production indices suggest a 3.7 per cent rise, noting different growth rates for electricity supply (+18.6 per cent) and mining (-16.1 per cent). These discrepancies likely stem from the different focuses on turnover versus output volume. The data uses 2021 as the base year of 100.
