Lawyer of the Republic assaulted in Limassol Criminal Court

On Friday, a female lawyer representing the Republic of Cyprus was assaulted by a convicted individual inside the Limassol Criminal Court. The incident occurred shortly after the judges had departed the courtroom and while the man was being escorted by police. The victim was struck in the face and subsequently transported to a hospital for medical treatment, though she was not expected to require long-term hospitalization. Attorney General Giorgos Savvides visited the victim and strongly condemned the assault, describing it as an attack on justice itself. This marks the third violent incident against Legal Service officials in the recent past, prompting the Attorney General to call for a review of security protocols and transportation procedures for defendants. A high-level meeting involving the Justice Minister and the Chief of Police was convened to discuss urgent safety measures. Police have launched both criminal and administrative investigations into the matter. The case file is expected to be delivered to the Law Office by the following Monday.
