Defendant attacks prosecutor in Limassol Criminal Court
On April 3, a defendant at the Limassol Permanent Criminal Court physically assaulted a prosecutor immediately after receiving a four-year prison sentence. The defendant, who had been convicted of kidnapping a woman, punched the representative of the prosecuting authority in the face as he was leaving the dock. Despite being under the escort of members of the Special Police Force (MMAD), security failed to prevent the initial strike. Police officers present in the courtroom successfully immobilized the defendant shortly after the incident. The injured prosecutor required medical attention and was transported to a hospital via ambulance. Following the event, the Legal Service has ordered an investigation into the circumstances of the attack. Additionally, the authorities have initiated a review of security protocols for legal officers working within the Legal Service.
