Justice Minister calls for formal evidence in Makarios Drousiotis case

Minister of Justice Kostas Fitiris stated on Friday that the police investigation into allegations made by journalist Makarios Drousiotis is currently underway. Speaking to the state broadcaster RIK, the minister emphasized that official investigation, not social media discourse, is the only valid method for resolving the claims. Fitiris urged Drousiotis to submit concrete evidence to the police immediately to facilitate the probe. He noted that the police have the authority to act ex officio, which includes the potential collection of communication data in cooperation with providers. The Minister explained that once the investigation is concluded, a report will be submitted to the Legal Service and the Council of Ministers for further decisions. He acknowledged that public trust in state institutions has been damaged but insisted on the need to support and strengthen these institutions rather than bypassing them. The Minister also highlighted the urgency of the matter, citing the need to protect the reputation of individuals mentioned in the allegations, including political candidates.
