Government reviews allegations made by journalist Makarios Drousiotis
Justice Minister Marios Fytiris announced that the Cyprus Police are conducting an investigation into serious allegations made by journalist Makarios Drousiotis, including claims of child rape against a former Supreme Court judge. Drousiotis visited police headquarters but did not provide documented evidence, instead submitting an unsigned text which authorities deemed insufficient. The government, led by President Christodoulides, is prepared to make decisions based on the findings once the Minister of Justice briefs the Cabinet. Meanwhile, Drousiotis maintains he possesses substantial evidence and has shared alleged communications involving high-profile figures such as former MEP Demetris Papadakis and politician Morfakis Solomonides. The accused judge, Michalakis Christodoulou, denies any wrongdoing, claiming he acted in a paternal capacity toward the alleged victim. The Justice Minister has stated that the potential assistance of an international expert is being considered for the investigation. Furthermore, the authorities are investigating separate counter-allegations made by Christodoulou and Papadakis against Drousiotis.
