Recognition of service time for pregnant contract and substitute teachers
The Plenary of the House of Representatives has approved an amendment to the regulations governing educational staff. This change ensures that the period during which a teacher employed on a contract or as a substitute, whether full-time or part-time, is unable to work due to pregnancy-related illness is now recognized as service time. Previously, such absences could potentially disrupt the accumulation of professional service credits. The amendment aims to protect the professional status of these educators during pregnancy. All relevant stakeholders expressed their support for these changes during the parliamentary deliberations. No opposition was reported regarding this legislative adjustment. The decision marks a significant update to existing labor regulations for the education sector in Cyprus.
