Cyprus contributes to research for NASA's Artemis mission

The Cyprus Space Exploration Organisation (CSEO), in partnership with the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, is contributing to research addressing health challenges for astronauts involved in NASA’s Artemis mission. CSEO President George Danos stated that this effort highlights Cyprus's growing role in international space research. While the current mission involves a crewed journey around the Moon rather than a landing, it serves as preparation for the Artemis 4 mission, which aims to establish a long-term lunar presence for scientific and technological study. The mission crew, launched on a Thursday, includes commander Reid Wiseman and pilot Victor Glover, the latter becoming the first Black astronaut to travel into deep space. The flight plan includes two days orbiting Earth, a four-day transit to the Moon, and a four-day return journey, culminating in a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. The mission is described as a historic return to the Moon, over 50 years after the last lunar missions. The research focus is specifically on medicinal treatments to mitigate health risks encountered by humans in space.
