MEP Michalis Hatzipantela advocates for Cyprus in EU budget negotiations
On Thursday in Nicosia, MEP Michalis Hatzipantela announced his role as rapporteur for the European Union budget. Hatzipantela, representing the EPP group, stated he is working on a 200 billion euro budget covering major EU institutions. His primary goal is to secure specific provisions for Cyprus within the framework of European programs. Key priorities include increasing funding for the rescEU mechanism, Erasmus student programs, and health initiatives. Specifically, he is seeking the establishment of a permanent base for 100 forest firefighters in Cyprus via the rescEU program. Hatzipantela is currently negotiating with various political groups to garner support for these proposals. He expressed optimism regarding the potential for wider backing during the upcoming legislative process.
