B1 bridge in Karaj, Iran, struck by multiple airstrikes
On April 2, 2026, the B1 bridge in the Azimiyeh district of Karaj, west of Tehran, was struck by multiple airstrikes. According to Iranian state media, including Fars and Press TV, the structure, which is the tallest bridge in the Middle East at 136 meters, was targeted twice within the same day. Initial reports indicate several injuries and two fatalities resulting from the second strike, which allegedly hit while emergency services were responding to the first attack. The bridge, valued at 400 million dollars and recently inaugurated, suffered severe damage including the collapse of a large portion of its road deck. Iranian state media attributed the operation to joint United States and Israeli forces. In response to the strikes, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard issued threats of retaliation against countries across the Middle East. Some reports suggest the bridge was still partially under construction, while others describe it as a completed major infrastructure project.
