Cyprus parliament votes to transfer emergency center to civil defense

On Thursday, the plenary session of the House of Representatives of Cyprus unanimously approved an amendment to the law on electronic communications. This legislative change facilitates the restructuring of the Emergency Response Center and the New Generation 112 project. Previously, the center operated under the jurisdiction of the Cyprus Police. The new law grants the Council of Ministers the authority to designate the responsible body for the center's operation via notification in the Official Gazette. Operational responsibility for both the center and the New Generation 112 project is expected to transition to the Civil Defense. Government officials stated that this shift aims to improve coordination in emergency management. The move is intended to align national protocols with modern civil protection requirements.
