First social enterprise café for individuals with autism opens in Cyprus

On World Autism Awareness Day, the True Heart Café opened in Cyprus as the country's first social enterprise of its kind. The project is led by the organization Voice of Autism, with its president Helen Pontikis confirming that five individuals with autism are shareholders in the venture. Staff members underwent a mandatory two-month training program, which included role-playing exercises, customer service skills, and workspace maintenance. The remaining staff also received specialized training to communicate effectively with their colleagues and manage various situations. Employee Konstantinos reported that he enjoys his role as a waiter and finds the work environment creative. Since its opening, the café has received immediate public support and interest from visitors. The initiative focuses on promoting social inclusion for individuals on the autism spectrum through active participation in the labor market.
