Annita Demetriou commemorates the start of the EOKA struggle

President of the Democratic Rally (DISY), Annita Demetriou, attended two commemorative events in Troulloi and Kyperounta to mark the anniversary of the 1955-1959 EOKA struggle against British colonial rule. During her addresses, she paid tribute to numerous EOKA fighters, specifically naming figures such as Grigoris Afxentiou, Kyriakos Matsis, and Evagoras Pallikaridis, alongside local heroes from the Kyperounta region. Demetriou emphasized that the Cyprus Republic was built upon the sacrifices of these individuals, urging youth to remain active in addressing modern national challenges. She formally declared that the liberation of Cyprus from occupying troops and the removal of foreign guarantees remains the party's primary political objective. Furthermore, she stated that any future European Union progress for Turkey is strictly contingent upon substantial advancements in the Cyprus negotiations. During her remarks, she also criticized the reliance on populist slogans in current politics, calling instead for consistency between rhetoric and governance.
