Cabinet approves financial aid for farmers and fertilizer cost subsidies

The Cyprus cabinet has approved a total of 7,693,500 euros in compensation for 1,528 farmers impacted by extreme weather and natural disasters during the 2024-2025 period. The funding is divided into 7,163,000 euros via the National Framework for adverse climatic phenomena, 200,000 euros for natural disasters, and 330,500 euros in de minimis aid. Payments will be managed by the Agricultural Production Protection and Insurance Fund, with offsets applied against state debts. Separately, the Department of Agriculture announced a support scheme to cover 15% of costs for fertilizers and farming supplies purchased between April 1 and May 31, 2026. This scheme is intended to mitigate the impact of the energy crisis linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Aid per beneficiary under this supply scheme ranges from 50 to 5,000 euros for eligible professional farmers registered in the official registry. Eligible supplies include pesticides, seedlings, and specialized netting or films.
