Investigation launched following allegations of projectile throwing across the Nicosia Green Line
On April 1, 2024, around 13:30, an incident involving the throwing of objects toward the occupied sector of Nicosia, near the Paphos Gate and Yiğitler Burcu, was reported. Tufan Erhürman, a Turkish Cypriot leader, alleged that a group from the government-controlled areas threw stones and explosives at Turkish Cypriots. Local media released footage showing a hooded individual firing and throwing objects, which authorities in the Republic of Cyprus believe may be firecrackers. No injuries were reported during the event. The Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) has launched an ex officio investigation, reviewing security camera footage from the vicinity. Erhürman criticized the security measures in place on that specific date and formally contacted the United Nations Peacekeeping Force and the Republic of Cyprus, demanding an investigation. Turkish Cypriot media sources have characterized the event as a significant attack, while authorities in the Republic of Cyprus are working to verify the authenticity of the circulated videos and identify the individuals involved.
