Continued hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon
Recent reports indicate an escalation of hostilities in southern Lebanon, with casualties reported following Israeli airstrikes in Mazraat Zouaya, Zibchit, and Mazdal Zoun. The Lebanese Civil Defense reported eight deaths on Tuesday, including three rescuers killed during operations. In addition to these incidents, the Lebanese Ministry of Health noted casualties in other areas, while the Israeli military reported the destruction of over 50 Hezbollah infrastructure targets, including tunnels in the Qantara region. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attacks on rescue teams, citing violations of international law. Conversely, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that Israel has no territorial ambitions in Lebanon and that military actions are intended solely to protect Israeli citizens. Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for various attacks against Israeli military positions, including a tank in Qantara. Both parties continue to accuse one another of violating the ceasefire that has been in place since April 17, 2026.
