Attempted murder suspect arrested after pushing commuter onto Seattle train tracks

A 26-year-old man, Elisio Melendez, was arrested and charged with attempted murder following an incident at the Northgate light rail station in Seattle. Surveillance footage captured Melendez waiting behind an elevator before forcefully pushing a commuter, Peter Walbran, toward the tracks as a train approached. Walbran successfully maintained his balance, avoided falling onto the tracks, and pursued the assailant. Law enforcement officers subsequently located and arrested Melendez at a mental health facility. During questioning, the suspect claimed the victim in the video was someone who resembled him or was his "non-existent twin brother." While Melendez reportedly lacks a formal adult criminal record, police records indicate he was accused in 2019 of second-degree domestic violence for allegedly stabbing his sister in the stomach. The suspect remains in custody as legal proceedings regarding the attempted murder charge continue.
