Greek government reshuffled following ministerial resignations

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis conducted a cabinet reshuffle on April 4, 2026, following the resignations of three government officials implicated in a European Public Prosecutor's Office investigation regarding the OPEKEPE agricultural payment agency. Minister of Rural Development Kostas Tsiaras, Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Giannis Kefalogiannis, and Deputy Minister of Health Dimitris Vartzopoulos stepped down after being named in the case files. Margarita Schinas, former European Commissioner, was appointed as the new Minister of Rural Development, with Makarios Lazaridis serving as his deputy. Evangelos Tournas was sworn in as the new Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection. Additionally, Kostas Skrekas resigned from his position as Secretary of the New Democracy Political Committee, with Stelios Kontadakis assuming the role on an interim basis. The incoming officials were sworn in at the Presidential Mansion in the presence of President Konstantinos Tasoulas and Prime Minister Mitsotakis. All departing officials are expected to request the lifting of their parliamentary immunity to address the allegations.
