On April 1, 2026, Cyprus commemorated the 71st anniversary of the EOKA liberation struggle against British colonial rule. Official ceremonies included doxologies and wreath-laying events across the country, with major activities centered in Nicosia. President Nikos Christodoulides and House President Annita Demetriou attended the main memorial service at the Cathedral of Apostolos Varnavas, followed by a trisagion at the Imprisoned Graves. Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus presided over the religious services. Events also took place in Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, and Paralimni, attended by various government ministers and officials. During the commemorations, speakers emphasized the historical importance of the 1955-1959 struggle and called for unity in resolving the Cyprus issue.
