Argentina designates Iranian Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization

The government of Argentina has officially added Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to its national list of terrorist organizations. This decision, announced by the administration of President Javier Milei, allows for the implementation of economic sanctions and operational restrictions against the group. The move follows a previous government decision in January to blacklist the Quds Force, the foreign operations arm of the Revolutionary Guard. This policy shift reflects the Milei administration's broader commitment to aligning Argentina's foreign policy with the United States and Israel. Argentine judicial authorities have long attributed responsibility to Iran and the Lebanese group Hezbollah for the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish center in Buenos Aires, which resulted in 85 deaths and hundreds of injuries. Since taking office in December 2023, President Milei has consistently supported American and Israeli military operations against the Islamic Republic. The government stated that this designation aims to prevent the organization from conducting activities within Argentine territory.
