Escalation of the Israel-Hezbollah conflict in Lebanon

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which began on March 2, 2026, has escalated into a widespread military operation. The Israel Defense Forces reported striking over 3,500 targets in Lebanon over the past month, claiming to have neutralized approximately 1,000 Hezbollah militants and destroyed military infrastructure. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the death toll has reached 1,318, including 91 women, 125 children, and 53 healthcare workers, with 3,935 people injured. The United Nations has reported that 1.16 million people have been displaced, with over 200,000 fleeing into Syria. UN officials also confirmed the deaths of three UNIFIL peacekeepers and noted increasing restrictions on their movement. Meanwhile, the Lebanese government is preparing for long-term displacement, while Israel continues ground operations and plans to secure its border.
