United States to re-evaluate NATO partnership following disputes over Iran conflict
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Washington will re-evaluate its relationship with NATO following the conflict in Iran. Rubio criticized Spain and other allies for their limited support during the hostilities. Specifically, he noted that Spain denied the United States access to its airspace and prohibited the use of military bases in Rota and Morón, Andalusia. Rubio stated that while NATO serves U.S. interests by hosting troops and equipment, the current arrangement is perceived as one-sided. He argued that the alliance cannot function as a one-way street where the U.S. protects Europe, while allies deny critical base access when Washington requires it. Rubio emphasized that these policies will be formally reassessed once the conflict concludes. The U.S. administration aims to address these alliance concerns in the near future.
