Zero VAT rate applied to meat and fish products in Cyprus
The Tax Department of Cyprus has announced a zero VAT rate on fresh, chilled, or frozen meat and fish. This decision, based on a Council of Ministers decree published in the Official Gazette, will be effective from April 6 to September 30. The zero-rate applies to specific goods categorized under CN codes, including beef, pork, lamb, goat, poultry, rabbit, and various types of seafood such as squid, cuttlefish, and octopus. Processed products, including marinated, smoked, or breaded meats and fish, as well as canned goods, are excluded from this measure. These processed items remain subject to a reduced VAT rate of 5%. This fiscal adjustment is intended to affect consumer pricing for basic meat and fish staples during the specified six-month period.
