Police investigation launched following allegations by Makarios Drousiotis

Investigative journalist Makarios Drousiotis recently published allegations on social media claiming the existence of an illegal network involving current and former officials. The accusations are based on screenshots allegedly depicting private mobile phone communications belonging to former Supreme Court member Michalakis Christodoulou. Cyprus Police Chief Themistos Aranoutis has ordered an official investigation into the matter. Former MEP and current candidate for the 'Alma' movement, Dimitris Papadakis, who was named in the report, has filed a formal police complaint against Drousiotis. Papadakis accuses the author of publishing fake news, a criminal offense punishable by up to two years in prison. Papadakis stated he retains his 2019 mobile device and is prepared to prove his innocence. Other individuals named in Drousiotis's report have publicly denied the claims, dismissing them as unfounded and suggesting hidden motives. Papadakis has urged authorities to secure all relevant evidence to prevent tampering.
