Cypriot antiquity repatriated from the United States
The Cypriot Department of Antiquities announced the return of an ancient artifact from the United States. The item is a White Painted V Ware jug, dating back to the Cypro-Archaic II period (600–480 BC). The vessel was identified during an online auction by officials monitoring the illegal trafficking of Cypriot antiquities. Following communication with the auction house, Kleinfelter’s Auction Inc., the item was withdrawn from sale. On March 27, 2026, the antiquity was formally handed over to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Washington, D.C. The Department of Antiquities expressed gratitude to the auction house and the donor for the voluntary return of the artifact. The Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus coordinated the repatriation process.
