Investigation opened into corruption allegations by Makarios Drousiotis

Journalist and Volt candidate Makarios Drousiotis has publicly accused various high-profile figures, including former Supreme Court judge Michalakis Christodoulou, former President Nicos Anastasiades, and other politicians, of involvement in a corruption network. Drousiotis claims to possess evidence such as messages, photographs, and bank documents, including records of a €250,000 transfer. Following these claims, which began surfacing on March 30, the Cyprus Police initiated a criminal investigation under the direction of Chief Themistos Arnaoutis. Drousiotis has formally met with police leadership to coordinate the transfer of his materials. The government, through spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, has urged the immediate submission of all evidence to authorities, while Minister of Justice Costas Fytiris rejected calls for independent international investigators, insisting that local institutions must handle the process. Several named individuals, including Demetris Papadakis and Morfakis Solomonidis, have denied the allegations and are pursuing legal action for slander. The Cyprus Bar Association and political parties have called for a transparent and credible inquiry to address the potential impact on judicial and political integrity.
