Ministry of Labor to present revised social insurance debt repayment plan

Minister of Labor Marinos Mousiouttas announced that a revised bill regarding the repayment of overdue debts to the Social Insurance Fund will be submitted to Parliament by Thursday, April 2. The Parliamentary Labor Committee reviewed the government's original proposal for repayment in 48 monthly installments over four years. Opposition members proposed a tiered system offering between 54 and 120 installments depending on the debt amount. The Ministry initially warned that the tiered proposal would be unconstitutional due to added costs and would cause six months of technical delays. However, the Ministry now intends to amend its bill to increase the number of installments to 54, aligning it with previous schemes implemented in 2016 and 2021. The Minister expects the revised bill to reach the plenary session during Holy Week.
