Annual legal statistics show decline in asylum-seeker cases in Cyprus for 2025

The Legal Service of the Republic of Cyprus released its 2025 annual report on legal cases filed by asylum seekers and foreign nationals. A total of 3,193 cases were registered at the Administrative Court of International Protection, representing a 48% decrease compared to 2024 and a 59% decrease relative to 2023. Of these cases, 2,880 originated from non-safe countries, 310 from safe countries, and 3 from stateless individuals. The primary countries of origin for applicants from non-safe countries included the Democratic Republic of Congo, Syria, Cameroon, and Nigeria. Among the 3,130 cases concluded during the year, only 68 were ruled in favor of the applicants. These successful rulings included 19 grants of refugee status, 6 grants of subsidiary protection, 33 cancellations of administrative decisions, and 8 cancellations of detention orders.
