Reopening of 11 livestock units in Pergamos and vaccination update

Veterinary services have lifted the suspension of 11 livestock units located in Pergamos following the completion of administrative and veterinary inspections. These units are now permitted to supply their products to the market. Regarding the ongoing efforts to contain foot-and-mouth disease, the first phase of vaccination has reached 98.5% of the bovine population and 80% of the goat and sheep population. The second phase of vaccination has covered 47% of cattle and 14% of goats and sheep to date. Epidemiological investigations, tracing, and sampling continue both within infected zones and across Cyprus. All laboratory results conducted so far have returned negative. Authorities have reiterated their call for farmers to avoid unnecessary gatherings and movement of livestock to prevent potential spread of the disease.
