Investigation into allegations involving the individual known as Sandy
Cypriot authorities have submitted evidence, including a mobile phone and over 130 digital files, to Europol for forensic analysis regarding allegations made by investigative journalist Makarios Drousiotis. The investigation centers on claims involving an individual referred to as 'Sandy' and potential misconduct by state officials. Controversy emerged when Drousiotis alleged that 'Sandy' was hired by the Presidential Palace under the current administration of Nikos Christodoulides. The government, through Deputy Government Spokesman Giannis Antoniou and other officials, categorically denied this claim, stating that no person matching those details has been employed by the current administration. President Christodoulides publicly reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law and stated that the investigation will proceed to its conclusion with new security measures. Drousiotis criticized the government's response, calling the investigations into his claims an orchestrated effort to discredit his work. He announced a brief hiatus from public commentary over the holiday period but maintains that official assurances regarding the investigation's integrity are false.
