Government to send evidence from Drousiotis to Europol for forensic examination
Journalist Makarios Drousiotis has submitted 137 pieces of evidence to Cypriot authorities regarding his allegations, which include claims of rape against a former Supreme Court judge and misconduct involving political figures. In response, Justice Minister Costas Fitiris announced that the Cabinet has decided to send this evidence to Europol for an independent forensic examination. Drousiotis has publicly criticized the police investigation, specifically targeting Chief of Police Themistos Arnaoutis and investigation leader Erotokritos Erotokritou, alleging that the authorities are biased and seeking to discredit his evidence as fake before proper analysis. He also demanded the appointment of independent criminal investigators, arguing that the current police structure cannot impartially handle the case. Furthermore, Drousiotis has called on President Christodoulides to clarify the circumstances surrounding the appointment of a specific individual, known as Santi, to the Presidential Palace. Meanwhile, the individuals accused by Drousiotis, including former MEP Demetris Papadakis and Edek deputy leader Morfakis Solomonides, have denied all allegations. Minister Fitiris stated that the government will wait for the results from Europol before deciding on any further steps, including the potential appointment of independent investigators.
