EU officials visit Bucha to mark fourth anniversary of city's liberation
The EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and a delegation of approximately 12 EU foreign ministers arrived in Kyiv today to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the liberation of Bucha from Russian forces. The officials, including the foreign ministers of Germany, Poland, and Italy, visited Bucha to hold a memorial ceremony for the victims. According to Ukrainian officials and human rights organizations, more than 400 civilians were killed in Bucha during the Russian occupation, while over 1,300 deaths were recorded in the broader region. The UN has confirmed the deaths of thousands of civilians since the invasion, though specific figures for Bucha remain a subject of dispute. Kallas emphasized the EU's commitment to holding those responsible for war crimes accountable. In contrast, the Russian government continues to deny allegations of atrocities in Bucha, claiming the events were staged. The visit occurs amid ongoing internal tensions within the European coalition regarding aid to Ukraine.
